Fifty Princes and Princess were guests at the birthday celebrations of Ex-Kaiser Wilhelm, which took place at Doorn House, his exile home in Holland on Jan. 27, 1939. A lavish banquet ended the day’s celebrations and at this the guests made a splendid picture with their uniforms and decorations, such a display of the former glories of the house of Hohenzollern visibly affecting the Ex-Kaiser. The Ex-Kaiser was in high spirits all day and greatly enjoyed himself in the big family gathering which assembled round him. Among the European monarchs who telegraphed birthday greetings to the Ex-Kaiser was King George, while Queen Mary also sent a message. The Ex-Kaiser seated among his relatives during his 80th birthday celebrations. Horses Named Seabiscuit Sculpture
Sculptor prepares life-size statue of famed Seabiscuit for its dedication at Santa Anita track, near Los Angeles, February 6th. The statue which is the work of Hulette “Tex” Weeler, internationally noted sculptor of horses will be unveiled in the paddock area of the Southern California track which was the scene of many of Seabiscuit’s triumphs. Seabiscuit himself, all time money winner of turfdom, will come out of his retirement on the Willets, Calif., ranch of his owner, C.S. Howard, to be present at the dedication ceremonies. On that day also Santa Anita will hold the “Seabiscuit Handicap” in his honor. In the picture “Tex” Wheeler, the sculptor, is shown in final work on the 2500 pound bronze statue in the plant of the Nelli Art Bronze Works at Los Angeles Jan. 27, 1941, where it was cast.
