Mark Baker has been with AP for seven years, six as the chief photographer in Sydney, and the past year in Malaysia as a photographer and regional sports photo editor. Mark began his career working for a variety of New Zealand newspapers, including the Auckland Star, before moving to Australia, where he worked at various Sydney papers before taking a staff position at the Sydney Morning Herald. He then joined Reuters news agency in 1988, where he worked until joining AP in 2003. Mark has covered four Winter and four Summer Olympics, as well as major international news stories in Indonesia, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, East Timor and Australia. His has twice been named New ZealandÕs Sports Photographer of the Year, and he has won AustraliaÕs top News Picture award, the Walkleys.
