Metadata Searches

A simple text string can narrow a search to a specific metadata field. This text string can be entered either into the Search box on the home page or in the Search Terms box in the Advanced Search window. This is demonstrated in the following examples:

slug=Chancellor

slug=Chancellor AND title=Chancellor

Note: For metadata field searches, always put the field name first:

Correct: title=Chancellor         Incorrect: Chancellor=title

source=(AP or CP) AND NOT ("President Obama" OR "Barack Obama")

To search for all items that did not arrive at 29 October 2007, 2:11:39pm GMT:

arrivaldatetime!=2007-10-29T14:11:39GMT

To search for items with image ID numbers that begin with X01, but exclude items with fire in the title:

friendlykey=X01* AND title!=fire

  • Metadata fields must be populated in the item's XML code to yield results.

  • Surround multiple keywords in quotes ("  "); for example, title="auto racing".
