The historical inmate hospital (building 5) of the correctional facility is secured with barbed wire in Waldheim, Germany, 31 March 2016. The former workhouse, which used to be the largest of its kind in the German state of Saxony, was opened on 03/04 April 1716 by Augustus II the Strong, Elector of Saxony. The facility that spans around 5.3 hectares is now home to 400 prisoners and includes a printery, a bookbindery, a metalworking shop, a carpentry workshop and other facilities, which are supposed to help first offenders reintegrate into society.
