Action of the Air Force in fighting forest fires

Vest of the 43rd Air Force Group, a unit of the Spanish Air Force, at the Torrejón de Ardoz Base, Madrid, Spain, on 2 July 2020 In the Summer Campaign (between 15 June and 30 September), the Unit makes its greatest effort by maintaining a minimum of 70% of the available aircraft, with their crews, ready to operate anywhere in Spain. During this period the Unit is currently deployed in 7 detachments in addition to maintaining the alarm service at Torrejón Air Base. The extinction mission is one of the most risky flights. The flight at a very low altitude, the smoke that decreases visibility, the wind that causes turbulence and fuels the fire, the great concentration of airborne resources over the same area and the orography of the fire zone that is usually steep, are some of the risk factors for which this Unit trains. 02 JULY 2020 MILITARY;FIRE;EXTINGUISHING;FLIGHT;WATER;AVIATION Ricardo Rubio / Europa Press 07/02/2020 (Europa Press via AP)
