CHARLESTON DOCK STREET THEATRE

The Dock Street Theatre, with scaffolding on facade, at Church and Queen Streets in Charleston, S.C., is seen on Jan. 20, 1937 as restoration nears completion. The theater, which was the former Planters Hotel, was purchased by the City of Charleston when restoration began in 1935 with funding from Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) and Works Progress Administration (WPA). Phillips Episcopal Church, founded in 1620, is seen in background. (AP Photo)
