Auschwitz before the 75th anniversary of liberation

25 January 2020, Poland, Oswiecim: Visitors enter the former Auschwitz I concentration camp through the entrance with the lettering "Arbeit macht frei". 27.01.2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp by the Red Army. From 1940 to 1945, the SS operated the complex with numerous satellite camps as concentration and extermination camps. The number of those murdered amounts to 1.1 to 1.5 million, most of them Jews. Auschwitz stands as a symbol of industrial mass murder and the extermination of the Jews. Photo by: Kay Nietfeld/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images
