Bat colony in old brewery

A greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis) nibbles at the finger of a conservationist in an old brewery in Frankfurt on the Oder, Germany, 12 January 2018. Equipped with lamps, ladders, mirrors and notepads, conservationists descend into the underground ruins of an old brewery to count hibernating bats. The old brewery was placed under nature protection 14 years ago and has since served as the largest hibernation spot for Myotis myotis in Germany. Every year, between 600 and 700 bats hibernate in the old brewery. Photo by: Patrick Pleul/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images
