Brocken from 2020 without weather observers

19 December 2019, Saxony-Anhalt, Wernigerode: Marc Kinkeldey, weather observer of the German Weather Service (DWD) opens a cabinet in the building of the DWD on the Brocken in which the weather observation reports of the past decades are stored. From 01 January 2020, automatic measuring technology will take over this job. As on other peaks, the Zugspitze and the Fichtelberg, the German Weather Service is now stopping the work of weather observers on the highest Harz peak. Next year, only radioactivity will be measured manually. Photo by: Klaus-Dietmar Gabbert/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images
