Cycling Tour of Flanders Racing in Lockdown

FILE - In this Sunday April 7, 2019 file photo, Italy's Alberto Bettiol of the Education First team crosses the finish line to take first place in the Tour of Flanders in Oudenaarde, Belgium. One of the five so-called “Monuments” _ the five most prestigious one-day races in cycling _ the “Ronde" has been scrapped from this season's calendar because of the outbreak of the coronavirus. All schools in the country have been shut down, only a handful of businesses remain open for essential needs while riding bikes in large groups has been forbidden. To keep the festive event alive, race organizers Flanders Classics will host a “lockdown edition" of the race on Sunday, April 5, 2020 with pro riders tackling the punishing Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg climbs from the comfort of their houses, on home trainers.
