International Women's Day YORKITS

International Women's Day YORKITS. Ahead of International Women's Day, Issy Sanderson, President of the Rotary Club of York Ainsty, helps make YORKITS (feminine hygiene kits for girls and women living in remote communities in economically developing countries), during a workshop in York Minster. Picture date: Thursday March 5, 2020. The YORKITS project, brings together over 180 volunteers to make attractive eco-friendly kits which are sent out to schools, colleges and poor communities in Africa and Asia. Due to poverty, many girls in developing countries miss out on schooling during menstruation. Because they have to stay at home while parents go out to work they sometimes become targets for predatory males. YORKITS enables gilrs to go to school every day, giving them health, hygiene and dignity. Consequently the incidence of sexual abuse and childhood pregnancy has dropped.
