Japan's Imperial Couple visits Hokkaido for inquiry of earthquak

Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visit evacuation center for expression of sympathy in Atsuma Town, Hokkaido Prefecture where the massive earthquake happened on September 9th on November 15, 2018. 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake was an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the moment magnitude scale struck Iburi Subprefecture in southern Hokkaido, Japan, on September 6, 2018 at 3:07 a.m. The earthquake's epicenter was near Tomakomai and occurred at a depth of 37 kilometers (about 23 miles). The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) registered a maximum intensity of 7 on the seismic scale. The earthquake disrupted electrical service throughout Hokkaido, had lived 5.3 million residents without power for five days. 41 people were confirmed dead and 691 were injured. The Emperor's abdication will be on April 30, 2019, and his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito's succession to the throne the following day May 1st, in 2019. ( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )
