Memorial commemorates last world war victims

01 September 2020, Saxony, Leipzig: Barbara Klepsch (CDU), Minister for Culture and Tourism in Saxony, stands at the inauguration in front of the "Memorial at the Felsenkeller" for seven dead from the last days of World War II. The memorial is to commemorate the five American soldiers who burned to death in their tanks on the morning of 18.4.1945 when they reached the intersection of Zschochersche Strasse/Karl-Heine-Strasse after being hit by a bazooka. The gunmen, two youths of the so-called "Volkssturm", died in the Americans' backfire. Photo by: Jan Woitas/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images
