Novel Coronavirus outbreak / Japan

Masami Sakoi (2nd from R), Councilor, Minister's Secretariat, and Masahiro Sasaki (R), Director, Office of Healthcare Policy of Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) announced that elderly man and female passengers from Diamond Princess cruise ship have died of a new coronavirus at its office in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo on Feb. 20, 2020. The virus-hit cruise ship accounted for 621 people who have been infected with the disease as of Feb. 20th. Approximately 500 passengers who become negative for coronavirus test, have got off the cruise ship after 2-week qaurantine. The number of the new coronavirus COVID-19-hit patients has reached to 74,185 and the death toll has been confirmed 2,112 so far as of February 18th in China. As the outbreak continues to spread outside China, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the new coronavirus a Global Health Emergency on Jan 31st.( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )
