William Kamkwamba has been inventing since he was a child in his native Malawi when he gained global attention for building a wind turbine using materials collected from a local scrapyard and now he will support a new wave of African inventors having detailed his own experience at the 2019 Red Bull Amaphiko Academy. Kamkwamba was unable to attend school as a child in Africa, so he visited his village library to help boost his love of electronics which resulted in him creating a makeshift wind turbine that soon got the attention of local farmers and journalists. News of his accomplishment soon spread internationally with the young inventor going on to make a TED speech. He went on to graduate from Dartmouth College with his inspirational book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind adapted into a film for Netflix by acclaimed British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. // William Kamkwamba seen at Red Bull Amaphiko Academy in Durban, South Africa on June 18, 2019. // Mpumelelo Macu / Red Bull Content Pool via AP Images // For more content, pictures and videos like this please go to http://www.redbullcontentpool.com
