Singapore Hungry Ghost Festival

In this Wednesday Aug. 21, 2013 photo, residents join "dead souls" to watch a concert of song and dance during the "Hungry Ghost Festival" celebrated in Singapore. During the month of August, Taoists and Buddhists believe that the "Gates of Hell" are opened and the souls of the dead are freed and allowed to roam the earth. Buddhists and Taoists observe a large-scale tradition of paying respects to the dead by organizing concerts, where empty front row seats, with the best view, are reserved for these souls. "Hell Money" is also burnt as part of offerings. Rituals and prayers led by priests are also offered to these souls as part of this yearly ritual.(AP Photo/Wong Maye-E)
