Skeleton of American mastodon shortly before transport to the USA

11 February 2020, Hessen, Darmstadt: Experts of a forwarding agency pack the skeleton of a huge fossil elephant of the Hessian State Museum for transport. On Thursday (13.02.2020), the approximately 14,000 year-old bones of the mastodon, packed in five crates, are to be transported by cargo plane from Frankfurt to the USA, where they will be on display in an exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington on the German researcher Alexander von Humboldt (1769 - 1859) in the US capital.
