Stones from the sky - meteorite collection in Halle becomes digital

03 February 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle: Collection manager Degen shows a pallasite from the meteorite collection of the University of Halle. The collection was founded in 1866 and is therefore one of the oldest meteorite collections in Germany. The pieces come from all over the world. The about 4.6 billion years old meteorites are the only witnesses of the origin of our solar system. Impacts of meteorites in the earth are very rare. The last meteorite impact on the territory of Saxony-Anhalt occurred in 1985 near Salzwedel.
