Truman Defense Production 1942

Senator Harry S. Truman (D-Mo.), chairman of the Senate's special committee to investigate the defense production program, testified in Washington before the Senate naval affairs committee, Jan. 27, 1942. Truman testified the Navy did not keep its cost records in such a way that it could determine what it cost to build a battleship in a Navy yard and thus had no yardstick to determine when private ship builders were making excessive profits.
