Mrs. Lyle C. Fordyce, wife of the late Captain Fordyce, skipper of the Army Hospital Ship Republic, holds her husband’s pet kitten, Vickey, at her home at 200 Hicks St., Brooklyn, New York, Feb. 4, 1946, after the kitten arrived from the West Coast by air. The four-month-old tabby, adopted by Captain Fordyce before his death last January 16, arrived with a limp as a result of having broken her leg in a fall the day after leaving the hospital ship. Captain Fordyce was a veteran of 30 years with the Army Transport Service. (AP Photo)
