The Navy as wall as the Army has its bomb disposal squads, and they dispose of mines and bombs. They deal with any unexploded bombs that may fall in naval establishments or on naval property. Their main job is the even more ticklish one of tackling unexploded mines. If the locality permits they are exploded then and there by the squad, but this is not always possible and other means may have to be adopted to remove the mine. A mine being exploded after being washed up on the mud flats. A quarter of a mile away on the mudflats the mine explodes in a welter of mud and water, Jan. 24, 1941. (AP Photo)
