WWII England BEF Soldiers Return

The King, on March 14, visited a South-East coast port where he saw a number of men, from the British Expeditionary Force in France, arriving home for their spell of leave in this country. For a short while his majesty acted as ticket-collector and inspected the men's passes, while he also walked along the leave train in the station and chatted to a number of the men. One of the soldiers proudly displays the trophy he has brought home with him, a German tin helmet as the leave ship draws alongside the quay at the South-East coast port, April 4, 1940. (AP Photo)
