Vietnam War Operation Babylift Crash

Rescue and recovery workers search the wreckage of a C-5A Galaxy transport plane carrying Vietnamese orphans that crashed shortly after takeoff from Saigon's Tan Son Nhut Airport during the initial flight of Operation Babylift, April 4, 1975. Seventy-eight children and about 50 adults died in the crash; about 170 people survived. Subsequent flights of Operation Babylift evacuated more than 2,500 children to the United States and other countries for adoption. (AP Photo/Sal Veder)
