Vietnam War Operation Babylift Crash

A critically-wounded U.S. Air Force crewman is treated at a Saigon hospital after a C-5A Galaxy transport plane carrying Vietnamese orphans crashed minutes after takeoff from Saigon's Tan Son Nhut Airport on the initial flight of Operation Babylift, April 4, 1975. Seventy-eight children and about 50 adults were killed; about 170 people survived the crash. Subsequent flights of Operation Babylift evacuated more than 2,500 children to the United States and other countries for adoption. (AP Photo/Neal Ulevich)
