The Balloons, attached to a great length of cable, ascend to an amazing height. Enemy aircraft flying into the cable are destroyed. The earth-end of the cable can be operated by a winch from a lorry, which gives the Balloon mobility. Recruiting for the maintenance of the Balloon forces opens on May 16. Balloons, unused for air defense purposes since the war, will be used, if necessary, for the protection of London from air attack. A number of the balloons will ascend on May 28 when Lord Luke officially opens the empire air day program.
