WWII England Island Fort

Island Forts are used by the British to protect East Coast shipping from aircraft on Feb. 3, 1944. They are commissioned as H.M. ships, each consists of two concrete towers, 50 feet high, connected by a steel superstructure on which the Anti Aircraft guns and equipment are mounted. The mess decks are in the towers, with a store room and magazine below. The armament is manned by Royal Marines, the guns and equipment are supplied by the Army. (AP Photo)
