Newport America’s Cup Race

With one leg of the triangular course off Newport, Rhode Island, with the wind, Harold Vanderbilt not only defeated Endeavor in the third America cup race, but also bettered a previous time record for the leg set up in 1934. The famous balloon spinnaker the largest sail in the world which Vanderbilt rigs for “down-hill” sailing played a large part in this success.
