Painted By J. Campbell Phillips

Joseph Lhevinne, pianist, gave a recital to an audience of one, as his portrait was being painted by J. Campbell Phillips on May 17, 1933 in the latter's New York Studio. Most portrait painters have their subjects talk while they pose, but with a musician it's even easier- they can play. Consequently their pose is more natural. (AP Photo)
