Young Guatemalan

In this Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 photo, plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Taub explains to the procedure he is about to undertake to Omar Patzán at The Mount SInai Hospital in New York before the first of many surgeries he will undertake. Tissue expander placed on Patzán's head will be used to stretch the skin around the malformation around his eye so that when he has the malformation surgically excised following an embolization, there will be enough skin to close the wound properly. Thanks to the research and fundraising efforts of several aid groups, a U.S. doctor and the inhabitants from San Antonio Aguas Calientes, in Guatemala, Patzán, an 18-year-old Guatemalan boy with a life-threatening arteriovenous malformation in the face, was able to receive surgery in New York and will soon start a new life, without constant bleeding and more vision.
