Japan Niigata Koreans Blocking Railway Tracks
Anti-communist Koreans launched passive resistance against Japan's mass movement of Korean residents to North Korea. Sitting and lying on railway tracks, some 200-pro-south Koreans delayed for 25 minutes a train carrying north Korea-bound families into Niigata, last stop in Japan for the migrants. Two Soviet cargo ships have docked at Niigata wharf where starting on Monday, December 14, 1959 to load Koreans for the trip to communist territory. The 300 departing Koreans of December 11, 1959 were the first of 5,000 who have applied for the trip to North Korea under an agreement negotiated by Red Cross societies of Japan and North Korea.
