First lady Eleanor Roosevelt watches her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt ceremonially sign a deed at Hyde Park, N.Y., July 24, 1939, giving to the government the title to 12 acres of land on the Roosevelt family estate to be the site of a library that will house more than 6,000,000 of the chief executive's official documents and manuscripts.
