Mongolia Camel and Mule Train

During most of the year only camels, oxen, and sturdy horses can negotiate this difficult gateway into Inner Mongolia which the Japanese army is silently penetrating and arming. Japanese diplomats say the aim is to advance an industrial programme. Japanese army men declare it is partially to render China impotent as a possible aid to Russia in the event of a Russo-Japanese war. The difficult roads at the gateway to Inner Mongolia, on Oct. 14, 1936, through which Japanese are sending arms for frontier fortifications. Japan has closed inner Mongolia to foreign visitors and is strictly preventing photographs of military activities there.
