Scottsboro case trial 1937

Leaving the Morgan County Courthouse, at Decatur,Al, in custody of an Alabama State Policeman, is Charlie Weems, convicted July 24, 1937 sentenced to serve 75 years in one of the Scottsboro cases. Weems and eight other blacks were charged with attacking two female white mill workers, Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, on a freight train. Four of the youths were freed on this day and another sentenced to 20 years on an assault charge. One had already been sentenced to death for the third time, one to serve 75 years and one to serve 99 years. (AP Photo)
